There seems to be a lot of confusion about the function of drum products. With so many products on the market I can certainly understand why this occurs. The Feed In A Drum is one of the oldest manufactured drums on the market. But more importantly it is the ONLY drum that does INDEPENDENT research on it's products before they put it on the market.
Our feed is designed to help cattle get a higher total digestible nutrient out of your forage. It accomplishes this by producing a drum using a high brick molasses and cooking it down to a low moisture molasses and then adding additional nutrients. This accomplishes 2 things.
First the low moisture helps to control the consumption. Cattle will consume 3/4 lb per head per day. This will help control cost and help every cow have access to feed every day several times a day.
Second and more importantly is that licking the drum several times a day the cow produces more saliva. Saliva is rich in bicarbonate and is critical for maintenance of rumen ph. Saliva is a natural buffer and helps to create an ideal rumen environment to help the cellulolytic bacteria to multiply. Cellulolytic bacteria are the bacteria that helps your cattle utilize the forage they are eating. This is how you will get a better total digestible nutrient out of your forage.
